PSA Group and Punch Powertrain: a joint venture

A French carmaker PSA Group and Punch Powertrain have revealed their plans for creation a joint venture for production of a new transmission for electric vehicles (e-DCT). A new production will be called "Punch Powertrain PSA e-transmissionissions" and will be placed at one of PSA enterprises in the city of Metz. It is expected that the plant will annually make more than half a million transmissions. It is planned that the production will begin in 2022. A gear box of e-DCT has been developed by the department of R & D Punch Powertrain and together with a 48-volt electric motor will be installed on perspective models of electric vehicles of the French car maker.

A Group management intends to increase sharply a release of vehicles with the electrical power plants. According to the published plans, by 2025 all cars of the concern will be completely electric, or with a hybrid power plant. Until the production lines are ready to e-DCT boxes, the plant will be engaged in production of transmission of Punch Powertrain hybrid DT2 for hybrid cars. A representative of the plant has announced that a new production will provide an additional 400 jobs.

The PSA also plans to allocate considerable investments into the joint venture. A cooperation with the French concern is also very favorable to the Punch Powertrain company as it will allow to strengthen positions in the European market. In 2017 the company has released more than 1 million boxes, mainly, for Asian clients.
